چکیده

The taxonomy of an ancient gymnosperm genus Taxus, with high value in horticulture and medicine, is perplexing because few reliable morphological characters for diagnosing species. Here, we performed a comprehensive investigation the evolutionary dynamics Taxus chloroplast genomes estimated phylogenetic relationships, divergence times, ancestral distributions species by comparing 18 complete genomes. variations across genome different indicated that remarkably varied lineages have reshaped architecture. Our well-resolved phylogeny supported T. brevifolia Nutt. was basal followed other North America lineages. Divergence time estimation range reconstruction suggested originated Late Cretaceous revealed extant shared common ancestor whose distribution area probably afterwards earliest members expanded to Southeast Asia from where Chinese originated. predominant European more closer relationship Eastern Asian speciation Eurasia arose several dispersal vicariance events Miocene. Genome-wide scanning positively selected genes were involved translation photosynthesis system which might be related adaptive evolution availability these not only enhances our understanding elusive relationships such as conservation, diversity, gene selection within but also provides excellent templates genetic bases further exploration well plant breeding improvement.

Plastome Evolution in the Sole Hemiparasitic Genus Laurel Dodder (Cassytha) and Insights into the Plastid Phylogenomics of Lauraceae

To date, little is known about the evolution of plastid genomes (plastomes) in Lauraceae. As one of the top five largest families in tropical forests, the Lauraceae contain many species that are important ecologically and economically. Lauraceous species also provide wonderful materials to study the evolutionary trajectory in response to parasitism because they contain both nonparasitic and par...

Human Studies Provide Insight into the Pathogenesis

Sir—In their article about Cryptosporidium species, Leav et al. [1] provide a nice summary of data on the molecular biology of these parasites and findings from animal studies. However, there are also recent human studies on the pathogenesis, immunology, and treatment of infection with this organism that were not discussed in the article. For example, the section on pathogenesis states that the...

Phylogenomics and Plastome Evolution of Tropical Forest Grasses (Leptaspis, Streptochaeta: Poaceae)

Studies of complete plastomes have proven informative for our understanding of the molecular evolution and phylogenomics of grasses. In this study, a plastome phylogenomic analysis sampled species from lineages of deeply diverging grasses including Streptochaeta spicata (Anomochlooideae), Leptaspis banksii, and L. zeylanica (both Pharoideae). Plastomes from next generation sequences for three s...

SSR marker variations in Brassica species provide insight into the origin and evolution of Brassica amphidiploids

BACKGROUND Oilseed Brassica represents an important group of oilseed crops with a long history of evolution and cultivation. To understand the origin and evolution of Brassica amphidiploids, simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were used to unravel genetic variations in three diploids and three amphidiploid Brassica species of U's triangle along with Eruca sativa as an outlier. RESULTS Of 124...

The unusual sexual preferences of a chlamydomonas mutant may provide insight into mating-type evolution.

Chlamydomonas monoica undergoes intraclonal mating-type differentiation (homothallism). Although the species differs in this regard from the more commonly studied heterothallic C. reinhardtii, cell-cell interactions and progression of the sexual cycle are similar for many homothallic and heterothallic species of the genus. Regulation of chloroplast gene transmission by the nuclear mating-type a...
